The idea for The Splatter Files was born out of the heavy amount of research I’ve been deep diving into as part of writing my current work in progress, a horror novel set in the 1970s.
There is no way I could ever cram every interesting fact, ghost story, and historical footnote I come across into a single book. So I wanted to create a repository for them that others could also enjoy.
I’m hoping that giving my research a home here will make the editing process easier down the road. It’s easier to kill your darlings when you’ve given them an afterlife to dwell in.
I plan on posting once a month for the remainder of spring and the summer, and will aim to increase to bi-monthly posts during the fall. Upcoming posts will explore:
Cryptids of Alabama
1970s train travel
Liminal spaces
The disintegration of orphanages into the foster care system
The music scene of 1970s Boston
Indigenous Folklore and Ghost Stories
1970s Campus Life
Serial killers in America
Each post will include articles and photos I’ve found while researching along with related books, movies, and art I’ve found inspiration in.
Regular posts will start June 1st, see you then!
